For three years, Malaysian students are pressured to the lowest point of self esteem to prepare for their PMR ( Penilaian Menengah Rendah ) Examinations. The maxiumum amount of subjects taken by a single student in this examination is generally nine: Math, Science, Home Economics/Workshop, History, Geography, Islamic Studies**, English, Arabic**, Tamil**,Punjabi**, Mandarin** and Iban**.
** Optional.
For three long years of school 5-6 days a week, countless extra classes and tuition courses, PMR Candidates for 2007, can finally have a very well deserved break! The school year ends in November but the PMR is held in October. So from October till the next School Year ( Starting in January '08 ) we have off. School attendance is still 'mandatory' ( Ch'yea.. AS IF anyone's going to actually show up ). We'll attend for three reasons:
Friends
Because the school board insists that we have to
To annoy the other students who are struggling with their studies while we're chilling around campus ( Muahahaha! )
SO, yesterday, our last paper, Geography, ended at 9.45am
There was shouting, hugging, screaming and to our delight.... singing o.O
I love my school and my friends. Later on, girlfriends Ivene & Aida went to Vincci to check out some cute shoes while I headed down to meet them.
The three of us, Pramnath ( Aida's boyfriend ) and Hwee Xian ( Ivene's good friend ) went to celebrate our victory at Pizza Hut.
To be honest it was kindda awkward for me, and not to mention a little lonely.
The original idea was that it was going to be a girl's evening out but it ended up as 3 girls and 2 guys -- Can you spot the odd one out?
So, I kept texting my friend Nick, hoping he could come and keep me company but his shift at a local coffee shop known as " Kopitiam " wasn't over yet. He made a rain check. But it still would have been nice if he could have made it.
We had a few laughs and discussed how we were planning to spend our holidays but I still couldn't help but feel left out because I can't understand or speak Mandarin at all and seeing that Ivene and Aida were pretty much engaged in other conversations.. I kept texting.
Afterwards, I sent Ivene to a BBQ Party near the beach and my family and I went to a Ramadan Fair near the lake and had ice cream. I got a really cute purse made of traditional Malaysian Batik while I was there.
