Congkak (Malaysian Mancala)

What I'm Listening To: Unwritten - Natasha Bedingfield

Congkak, or Malaysia Mancala, is a two player game using pebbles, stones or marbles. The picture above shows a Traditional Malaysian-Style board, which is very similar to the one my friend, Alex and I played with today.

Mancala (Arabic: منقلة, manqalä) is a family of board games played around the world, sometimes called sowing games or count and capture games, which comes from the general gameplay. Mancala games play a role in many African and some Asian societies comparable to that of chess in the West. The mancala games best known in the Western world are Kalah, Oware (or Awele), Congklak, Omweso, and Bao.
The word mancala comes from the Arabic word naqala (literally "to move"). There is no traditional game with the name mancala; rather mancala is a type of game. This word is used at least in Syria, Lebanon and Egypt, but is not consistently applied to any one game.
In the Western world, mancala is often used as a synonym for the game Kalah. This traditionally incorrect usage is helped by marketing. - Wikipedia

According to our schedule, today's Sophomore program was to participate in outdoor and indoor sports (ping-pong, netball, football (soccer), badminton, tennis, basketball, etc.)
But when I woke up this morning it was raining heavily outside, and it continued to rain on and off throughout the day so our activities were cancelled and we ended up playing games and watching a movie inside a hall.

There were the usual games: Chinese checkers, chess, uno (YAH BABY -.-), snap, carem and congkak (mancala)
So that's what we did. The whole day.

Oh, and Bryan kept flicking Alex and I all morning. (Grrrr!)
It's too bad we love him too much =D
He should have been doing some last minute revisions for his exam today (he's a Junior) but he willingly admitted, that he's lazy. Hahaha! Well, I guess we should hope he does alright. I think he'll do okay. Hopefully.
